Extreme Weather: Power Outages

 

  1. A full freezer will hold its temperature for two days and 1 day for half-full.
  2. Your refrigerator will keep food cold for a max. of 4 hours if door is kept closed.
  3. You should never constantly open and close your refrigerator door.
  4. Place leftover items, etc., in the freezer area or an actual freezer if necessary.
  5. If you can, fill freezer bags (or trash bag) with water and store in freezer if necessary.
  6. Never allow frozen bags to thaw out in your refrigerator or freezer. Discard immediately. Or reuse for watering plants, mopping the floor, flushing the toilet, etc.
  7. Fill a bucket with water or your tub.
  8. Don't allow food to be stored outside for long periods of time because of predators.
  9. In the winter months or on a snowy day, bring food indoors before the sun comes up.
  10. Never store food outdoors during the summer and spring months.
  11. Do not sit bottled waters directly in sunlight or stored in your car.
  12. Keep mostly-used room doors shut.
  13. Don't over inflate your tires during the winter months.  Use a little less air than the actual tire pressure requirements for your vehicle.
