Family Vacations are family bonding opportunities to build a sense of family togetherness without the pressures of everyday life. Where the family goes and how long the stay are not important, but the best vacations are planned around the interests and the developmental levels of each child or adult.
When planning a trip with young children, remember that they need and like routine. If you have a preschooler you should consider this age group's self-centeredness, short attention span, and need for movement.
A family should keep naptime, mealtimes, and bedtimes as close to the normal routine as possible. It also helps when the itinerary is discussed so that kids know what to expect.
All age levels (children) enjoy physical activity, quiet playtime, arts and crafts, and most of what you may suggest. Allow each child to explore and talk about their observations and experiences.
Always prepare a game/activity kit. Your kit should include healthy snacks, storybooks, crayons (cooler months), paper, and games. These items should be used only for traveling or outing purposes. Never use a favorite toy to only get left behind :)
By pre-planning your vacation, ensuring some routine, yet allowing for flexibility, everyone in your unique household can enjoy the opportunity.
